Happy Mother’s Day From Mommyland!

8 May

I hope all the mamas out there are having a wonderful Mother’s Day.

My day has been fun and relaxing, and it all started with my boys coming in, with big smiles, to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. I must have been a very good mommy this year since I got a few AWESOME things from Boy Mom Designs! I’m one lucky mama. If you’re a mom of boys…GO CHECK THEM OUT!

This year I’ve decided to do something for myself for Mother’s Day. OK, I think I do something for myself every year, but this year it’s a little different. I’ve decided to get back on the fitness bandwagon again, and to write about it. I am not lying when I say I haven’t exercised in YEARS! I want to work towards being a healthier mom for my boys so I can enjoy MANY more Mother’s Days with them. If I’m being totally honest, I also hope to lose a few pounds and look a little better too. When I was running and exercising everyday I felt so much better about myself and so much happier. I’m sure that translated into a being a better mother too, since I didn’t yell nearly as much. I know to lose weight exercise alone isn’t going to do it, but I can only handle one major change at a time…Healthier eating to come.

Today was day 1.

I already have everything I need; I have an elliptical. I have a treadmill. I have a Wii system with a multitude of fitness “games”. I even have a YMCA membership. To top all the ways I have to exercise, I have my fitness watch to track my calories burned and overall fitness progress.

I thought to ease back into exercise I would do the 30 day challenge on EA Sports Active. First let me say that I HIGHLY recommend this “game” if you’re looking to add something different to your exercise routine OR if you’re just getting into (or back into) working out. Each day I’m given a workout plan to follow for 20-40 minutes. I work through all the exercises with my trainer, the remote and nun-chuck can sense my movements and know if I’m doing it right. It was kind of funny, while I was doing my workout today the boys were running around with my resistance band and trying to turn the balance board off. The last time I used EA Active Logan was a baby sitting in his bouncy seat. Man have I fallen off the wagon…and then I got run over by it.

Don’t let the fact that it’s a video game fool you, it had my heart rate up high enough that the alarm on my watch went off telling me to tone it down a little.

So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to start blogging about my progress (at least for the next 2 months). Not just my physical progress, also my progress in learning how to fit in some form of formal exercise everyday. My hope is to not only maybe inspire others, but gain some inspiration from you. Help me out here. Tips, tricks, a good verbal ass beating on the days I don’t think I can fit a workout in…whatever you can offer. I’m also hoping that by writing about my fitness journey, that it’ll force me to be accountable, thus keeping me on track. I’m still undecided as to whether I will share my weight and waist measurements (how I will measure my progress). If I don’t share the actual numbers, I will share the amount lost (or God forbid) gained.

Do you need to get back in the swing of things and start exercising again? If you’re looking for a cyber workout buddy feel free to email me and we can help give each other motivation, inspiration and accountably.
