We had a jammin’ time at Monster Jam

12 Jun

Last year I won tickets to Monster Jam and the boys had such a blast that we decided that very night that we’d be going again this year.

Unfortunately we didn’t win tickets this year, but Bill’s brother Joe was able to get us some great seats at a good price. Thanks Joe!

I didn’t even use zoom for this photo.

Of course, the boys were naughty all day long and we almost skipped Monster Jam all together, but we eventually made it there for an action packed night.

The first thing you should know about Monster Jam is that you MUST have ear protection. Those trucks are mind numbingly loud and you will be def by the end of the night if you don’t take precautions.

The Speed Channel was there taping and they went through all their pre show announcements. The Eagles cheerleaders came out since you have to have half dressed women at any motor sports event. Finally, it’s almost time for he main event to begin. The guy who sung to national anthem was horrible! I swear he was making up the words as he went along. I get it, singing the national anthem in front of thousands of people isn’t easy, but at least learn the correct words, it is the song of your country after all.

Ok, down off my soap box.

I really don’t know who was more excited when the trucks came out, me or the boys. I was screaming for my favorite trucks (Monster Mutt & El Toro Loco) and cheering for the trucks doing jumps as they did their entrance lap. With all those wild and crazy trucks it’s hard not to get excited…even for a girlie girl like me.

First up were the races. I’m not really a big fan of the truck races since they’re really not that exciting. If you’ve never been, it’s two trucks at a time starting from opposite ends of the track racing for the best time. The qualifying round is followed by two elimination rounds. This year it was Grave Digger who won the race. It was really cool to see since he’s got 19 undefeated runs under his belt and it’s his 30th anniversary. Dennis Anderson, the Grave Digger driver signed his trophy and gave it to a lucky fan in the stands.

Our seats were great because of the view but bad because there is no easy way for the drivers to get up to the Club Level at Lincoln Financial Field. Kind of a bummer that the boys didn’t get to see any of the drivers up close.

Time for the main event, well my favorite part anyway…The freestyle event. Cars, trucks, buses, boats and even a camper made up the obstacles and let me tell you, they were no match for any of these trucks.

My main mutt…Monster Mutt!

The first few trucks were kind of a yawnfest, no big or exciting tricks, just a lot of noise. Then it was time for some of the big guns to do their freestyle. I was screaming and jumping and giving the boys high fives. These guys know how to put on a show and destroy a truck. A lot of the guys kept going after their competition time was up just to get the crowd going.

What you can’t see is that the truck is actually on FIRE!

I can’t get enough of the freestyle, the things that these trucks can do is nothing short of amazing. Have you ever seen a truck to a backflip? No? Well I have. The best part was seeing the looks on the boy’s faces when something cool happened, absolutely priceless.

Will we go again next year? Hell yeah!! I’ll probably keep going even after the boys lose interest. Yeah, I’m a dork like that.

With the exception of Logan wetting his pants (I had extra with me), the night was a complete success. While we were out, the boys listened and stayed with us without complaint. I was shocked that they stuck it out until the bitter end. Logan looked like he was about to pass out for the last few trucks but he kept his eyes open and didn’t miss a trick. I thought for sure they’d both be out cold by the time we made it out of the parking lot. Nope, they laughed and beat each other with stuffed trucks the whole way home. I also thought they’d sleep in on Sunday, but no such luck there either.

Clearly I had a good time!

Have you ever been to Monster Jam? What was your favorite part?
