I Couldn’t Make This Sh*t Up (Volume 5)

13 Aug

After over six years as a mother I’ve realized that there are still firsts to be had. I had the joy of experiencing one of those firsts not too long ago. The first time one of my children would get something stuck up their nose.

That’s right people…UP. HIS. NOSE!!!

It started out as any other day, boys acting a little nutty. They were playing in their rooms while I got ready to go out. When it was time to go Logan told me he stuck “that blue thing” up his nose.

It took me about five minutes to get him to fill me in as to what a “blue thing” is. It’s a pony bead (craft bead). Plastic, pretty big, although small enough to fit up a three year old’s nose.

At first I couldn’t see it which sent me into a panic. If I couldn’t see it, where was it? Is it lodged in his brain?

I grabbed a flashlight and tilted his head way back and there it was. I tried to get him to blow it out, no luck.

I called the doctor’s office and tried to get him to blow it out again, still no luck.

We trek the thirty minutes in morning rush hour traffic to get to the office.

Too embarrassed to let me take his picture.

Of course there’s an issue with our new insurance that has to be straightened out and the office is packed.

Finally we’re back in an exam room. Cameron looks up Logan’s nose and says, “Hey, I can see it!” Of course I need to take a look too, low and behold the little bead had dropped a little.

I plug the unclogged nostril and tell Logan to blow.

WHACK!!!!

That little blue bead flys out of Logan’s nose and bounces off my forehead before taking a spin on the floor. Really? Did it have to hit me in the head first?

My Life In Mommyland

YAY, I just hit Mom in the head with a bead…from my nose!

We let them know we wouldn’t be needing the doctor’s services after all on our way out the door. It still remains to be seen whether they’ll bill us or not, I hope not.

OK, if I’m being honest, I think that the bead coming out on it’s own no matter where it hit me is MUCH better than the alternative of having the doctor go in to retrieve it. He thought it was hilarious and so did every single person who works in the office…I’m fine with that. Why? Because at the end of the day my little guy was just fine.

The offending bead…AFTER

Have your little ones ever stuck a foreign object up their nose, in their ear or in some other bodily orifice? What was your reaction?
