Getting SMART With Detour

13 Nov

I was recently given the opportunity to try a few different lines of Detour Bars. I’m always looking for a low calorie, high protein bar to enjoy on days I run or eat when I can’t have a full meal at work.

I’ve tried so many different kinds of bars and I liked them but none of them were what I would call a keeper.

Enter Detour.

The SMART bars are brand new whole grain oatmeal bars. For those of you who are gluten free you can enjoy these bars without a worry. If you’re into organic food, the SMART bars are 38% organic.

If you’ve ever taken the time to check out the nutritional facts on some bars you’d see that they are often times full of sugar but not the SMART bars. With only 4 grams per bar you won’t end up with a big sugar rush followed by a big sugar crash.

Each bar is packed with 10 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber so they’re not just empty calories.

So what did I think?

I have to say, when I first opened the package I was surprised at what I found. I was expecting something more like a granola bar but the SMART bars are more chewy. Not a bad thing and certainly a lot less messy to eat.

I was given four flavors to try (two of them are not yet available) and while there wasn’t any flavor I didn’t like, I have my favorite. The blueberry was my absolute favorite which was shocking since I really don’t like blueberries that much.

What you do need to keep in mind is that these aren’t candy bars and they don’t taste like candy bars.

If you’re looking for a good pre-workout fuel or midday snack, Detour SMART bars are a really good option for you. They’ll keep you satisfied without adding too many extra calories to your day.

These bars are my favorite pre run snack and they often come to work with me since I don’t have a lot of time to eat a full meal.

Disclaimer: I was given samples of Detour SMART bars to try and enjoy. As always theĀ opinions are all my own.
