Holiday allergies

18 Dec

Earlier this week on Good Morning America, they talked about allergies during the holiday season. Apparently we often mistake our holiday allergies for a cold, who knew? The very day after seeing that story on GMA, we discovered Bill had a new allergy, and I’m not too happy about it.

I love, love, love the Slatkin & Co. candles from Bath & Body Works. With all the holiday sales going on now, they’ve been 2 for $20 for the three wick candles that are normally $19.50 each, so I’ve been hoarding. On my last visit to Bath & Body Works, I picked up a Twisted Peppermint 3 wick candle because it smelled so yummy.

A few days ago I broke out the above mentioned Twisted Peppermint candle and put it in my gingerbread house luminary and burnt it for most of the day. Bill walked in the door around 8:30 and within 5 minutes of being home started sneezing uncontrollably and his face got all swollen. SERIOUSLY!?!?! All day my house smelled like I was making candy, it was wonderful. Twisted Peppermint had quickly become one of my new favorite holiday scents.

Could it be a coincidence? Could there have been something else floating in the air? Although highly unlikely, that’s what I’m hoping. I’m going to try it again and see if we have the same reaction. I’m not going to tell Bill when, but some day in the near future I’m going to burn that candle again and see if he swells up again. Cruel? Maybe, but I have to give it a try before I have to give the candle away for someone else to love.

It just doesn’t seem fair that all the wonderful decorations and smells of the season can wreak havoc on our allergies. I guess it is promising that my runny noise could be allergies and not the dreaded cold.

Have a great weekend!
