I Heart Green.

4 Mar

OK, there seems to be one day every week that I just can’t seem to pull it together and get my blogging done. I’m only human, and a busy human at that. To make up for my tardiness, I’ll give you all a two for one day today. Here’s my Weight Loss Wednesday (well, Thursday), and later I’ll give you a little something for today.

Kermit the Frog used to say, “It’s not easy being green.” These days, green is the way to be. I’d like to think I make some effort in my house to be more on the green side of things, but if there’s one green thing I can’t get enough of, it’s green tea.

Green tea isn’t something I fell in love with right off the bat, it was more of an acquired taste. But now that I’ve acquired that taste, I try to have a cup or two (or more) each day.

Who knew something I actually like to drink could have so many benefits?

Not only does it give me that extra little kick to get me going in the morning (since I stopped drinking coffee), there are studies that show it’s doing some other great things too. Since green tea is full of antioxidants, it can help fight off cancer and blood clots. I do understand that drinking green tea doesn’t make me immune to cancer, so not to worry. Along with all the antioxidants, green tea is full of vitamins A, C and E. I’m sure we all know the many things that A C and E  do for us.

Green tea can help your skin out too. The polyphenols have anti-inflammatory properties that help keep your skin looking and feeling healthy. Speaking of looking and feeling healthy, if you’re trying to lose a few pounds (and who isn’t these days?), green tea can help with that too by boosting your metabolism.

I find that when I have a cup of green tea in the morning after breakfast I can go longer before I’m ready for lunch. Another cup in the afternoon helps me ward off the mid afternoon munchies. With as cold as this winter has been, my tea also helps to keep me a little warmer too.

Give it a try for yourself, I don’t think you’ll regret it. If you’re sensitive to caffeine, I would stick to decaf, especially later in the day.

I heart green tea!
