The Mommyland Farm (Volume 7)

1 Jun

We’ve had some positive progress here on the farm. We’ve also had a slight set back, but the good far out weighs the bad at this point.

The bad new…The eggplants didn’t make it. It would seem that something (an insect) was eating them, they turned yellow, lost their leaves and croaked. WHA WHA WHAAA! Oh well, better luck with them next year.

The good news, it looks like it won’t be too much longer before we’ll have some yummy veggies to enjoy. In fact, WE HAVE PEAS!!! WOOHOO! I was overjoyed to see a handful of actual peas growing on the vines. Who knew I could actually grow something?!? Not me. Two of the four tomato plants have a few flowers on them already too. Although with as fast as the flowers keep appearing, I’m sure that by the time I finish writing this we’ll have a few more. I thought the cucumbers looked a little sickly, but the hubster assures me that they’re still doing ok. Apparently since they’re still growing, they’re alive…Who knew? We even see the start of a little flower on the biggest of the cucumber plants. MMMMMMM, I can’t wait to get some cucumbers and make some pickles. Maybe I’ll even try cucumber slices in my water, I hear that’s good to help lose weight. ;-)

Our fence has managed to keep all manner of beasts out, which is a definite plus. I was worried that Gunther (our “pet” groundhog) and his family would make an all day buffet out of our garden. I saw a deer sniffing around one morning, but he took a whiff of the marigolds and kept right on walking.

So what’s next here on the farm? Not much, just keeping everything well watered and waiting for our bounty. I really thought for sure with all the hot weather we have been having here in Southeastern Pennsylvania that everything would have gone up in smoke.

Do you have a garden? What are you growing out there? Any experienced gardeners out there who can give us newbies a few pointers? Share your wealth of knowledge!

Stay tuned, there’s much more to come from The Mommyland Farm.

One of our first peas...YAY!
