Making Magic In The Bedroom

31 Aug

It wasn’t too long ago that I mentioned that we’ve lived in our house for a year and had done very little since we got here. Our bedroom is no exception, it’s still the boring contractor’s white that is was the day we moved in. Sure there’s a few photos on the walls, and there are curtains on the windows, but there is no personality. When we moved in I had gotten a new “room in a bag” set for our room and now I wonder now what I was thinking. It red. I’m totally not a red person.

A bedroom should be a sanctuary, a calming place to retreat to at the end of the day. Or hideout in when the kids drive you nuts. My dark red bedding with matching curtains is anything but calming.

I declare  that it is time for a change. New stuff isn’t really in the cards for me right now; not only can I not find anything that I’m in love with, I can’t really afford to spend a few hundred dollars on decorating my bedroom. The solution? I’ve gone back to my old “room in a bag”. I like the room in a bag since no decorating ability is needed, it all comes together in one…well, bag so there’s no hunting for the perfect curtains to match the bedding.

I’m not going to stop with just changing the bedding and hanging some new curtains, as soon as humanly possible we’re going to paint the room a nice calming blue to match everything. Maybe it’s because I’m unbelievably uncreative, or maybe I just live by the philosophy that if it’s not broke don’t fix it, but I’m going back to the color scheme that we had in our bedroom in our old house. I liked it. It worked. I already have everything except the paint. Why try and reinvent the wheel and come up with something new?

I have to say that if it wasn’t for Project Marriage I would probably have left things that way they were and hated it, but since this month’s challenge was to make a change in the bedroom, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to…well, make a change. Be sure you stop by HERE and see what other people are doing in the bedroom.

Here are some before and after photos. Obviously the paint isn’t done yet, but I’m going to use this bedding until I can find something I truly love.

Oh, but I’m not done with new bedding and painting the walls…I want need some “adult” furniture. Right now we have a mismatched of grouping of hand me downs and crappy Target furniture. As soon as I’m finished paying for all the new furniture we bought when we moved to The Hill, I’m going out to buy a beautiful new bedroom set with a King sized bed!

Do you have a room in desperate need of updating? Tell me about it.
