Falling in love all over again.

20 Jun

It was love at first sight.

From the moment I walked through the front door of this house I was in love. I loved the arched doorways. I loved the high ceilings. I loved the space up on The Hill.

We’ve been here nearly two years now and for those two years we’ve just kind of been living here. We hadn’t done too much to make it our own and it’s felt like a temporary place. It’s kind of funny how after so much time I was still expecting to have to pack up an go someplace else. I am NOT going anywhere.

But I digress.

Like I said, we have just been living here. Sure I still love my house by the initial shine has worn off and I have been feeling more like, “eh”.

We had been toying with the idea of having the house painted since last summer and have been living with color samples painted all over the place. It was kind of embarrassing to have people over to see our multicolored, splotched walls. There really wash’t much of an excuse, we even had the painter. All that was left to do was bite to bullet.

Last week we bit that bullet and had the painters come in and get started.

They started last Tuesday and by the time yesterday came I was more than ready for them to be out and have my house back to normal.

I’m in LOVE all over again!

From the end of the first day I was excited and wished we had done it sooner. Our house finally looks like a home, it really is shocking the difference some color can make. We went from those boring, contractor white walls to beautiful color all over the house.

I have to say that it’s taken a little getting used to since the white reflects more light than the colors do, but our house is so open and bright anyway it’s nice to have it toned down a bit.

Dining room.

I have had to threaten the boys with bodily harm (not really) to keep their hands off the walls. They got with the program pretty quick though and started using the railings instead of the wall to go up and down the stairs.

As the painters would finish a room I would spend the next day standing in it taking in the beauty of color. I just walk the first floor looking at the walls with a giant smile on my face. Yes, I know I’m a crazy person.

The photos don’t really do justice, the place looks AMAZING! Also, don’t judge me by my messy house, the painters just left yesterday and we’re still trying to get things back where they belong.

I am home.

What have you done in your house to put your personal stamp on it and make it your own?
