Buh Bye 2014, Hello 2015

2015

Let’s face it, 2014 was rough. It started out looking pretty good but took a quick nosedive.

Taking a look back, it started with a hellacious winter filled with lots of snow, that usually fell while Bill was away, and many days off for the kids. The spring thaw started out awesome with me running in my first and second half marathons in the month of March.

There’s where we take our turn for the worst. I’m sure I’ll be paying off the medical bills that accompanied the process of my diagnoses and subsequent surgery for years to come. Spring was when the bill for Logan’s sleep study finally arrived only adding to the financial strain.

MONTHS of not running was made worse by our little family struggling to acclimate to the new normal as we entered the first full year of Bill’s business.

Summer was sedentary for all of us since Bill had to work and the boys were stuck with a mother who couldn’t even walk let alone drive to take them places. This summer will be the greatest Summer of Mommyland they have ever seen to make up for all the guilt I feel.

Mercifully the fall and holiday season came and went without much fanfare. Of course the stress of buying gifts while trying to whittle down the medical debt made the holiday season extra special.

So here we are, five days into 2015. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been (without a baby in the belly) and I’m down to the last pair of jeans that fit me before I have to live in activewear. I’m ready to see life turn around.

My hopes for this year are simple, get out from under this debt so we can start building some savings, run injury free, lose the 20ish pounds I gained in 2014 and to make those little daily stressors go the hell away. Yeah, that last one is almost laughable. OK, how about learn to cope with those daily stressors in a better, more effective way. Oh and I’d also like to have my house clean enough that if someone were to pop in unannounced I could offer them a cup of coffee instead of meeting them in the driveway to see what they need before sending them on their way.

I am hellbent and determined to make 2015 my best year yet. Hell, I’ve got a milestone birthday this year so it would be nice to have a great year.

How are you hoping 2015 measures up to 2014 and years past?

Welcome to Mommyland

2 Jan

Since we’re starting a new year I thought it would be a good opportunity to reintroduce myself and welcome any new readers who happen to stop by. Hi, I’m Mychal. I’m mother to two hilarious, crazy, naughty, funny, infuriating, cute, sweet, adorable, not so little boys. I am also the wife to one of the most dedicated, hardworking men you’ll meet. We all live in our (almost) dream home on The Hill with our 17 pound cat Princess Nittany. Our home is 100% Apple-centric where all of our devices work together to make our life a little easier and a LOT more organized.

Mychal & Bill

In my days before Mommyland I graduated from Penn State with a degree in Business (which is hanging over my desk). I spent over ten years working in retail, starting as a part time sales girl and leaving the wild world of retail as a Store Manager. I was very outgoing and enjoyed shopping, partying and singing karaoke.

Since entering the world of Mommyland I have become very shy in real life and because of that I have found that I thrive in the Social Media world. In addition to this blog I am also the founder of an online community called Wives of Turf. To break it down to it’s simplest form, we’re a support group for women whose husbands, boyfriends, fiancees or significant others work in the Turfgrass industry.

My boys are the reason I get out of bed in the morning…And sometimes the reason I don’t want to get out of bed in the morning.

Cameron will be eight this year and is so much like me that it’s scary. He’s lippy. He likes things his way. He gets frustrated easily. He cries when he’s mad. Basically he picked up all of my worst traits. Cameron is also very intelligent. He reads above grade level and is a math wiz. For a second grader he is very insightful and sometimes I look at him and wonder where he came from.

Logan is my little lover boy. He looks like me but I think that’s where the similarities end. Logan looks up to his big brother and wants to be just like him…bad behavior included. He is my cuddler who loves our cat and wakes up singing. I guess he is like me in the fact that he’s got a little naughty streak in him. Logan just turned five in November and is very excited to start Kindergarden in September.

That’s a little about me and my family. So what will you see here in Mommyland?

I write about whatever is going on in my life. You’ll see stories about my adventures raising two little boys, recipes, health & fitness, the occasional product review and just about everything in between.

I hope you’ll join me on this adventure as I stumble my way through life as a wife and mother.
