My Life In Mommyland

Run…

Back when Logan was a tiny baby I loved to run. A few days a week I’d run inside at the Y while Cameron was in his pre-preschool class. What I loved the most though was running at the park.

We lived right around the corner from a nice park and I’d jog there, run a few miles then walk home. I loved it!

Until I got a cyst in my foot and was sidelined. I haven’t really gotten back into running since (that was probably 3 years ago).

That is until about a month and a half ago. Knowing I needed to do something to get (and stay) healthy and with some inspiration from my fellow Wives of Turf I decided it was time to start running again.

The C25K Adventure.

I know that if I just go out and start running I’ll probably push too hard, injure or possible even kill myself. I figured the Couch to 5K program was a good place to start. For the past six weeks I’ve been working my way back up to be able to run a full 3.2 miles.

C25K is a great program because it takes baby steps to running the full 3.2 miles. Using intervals of walking a running I’ve gradually worked my way up to more running than walking. I’m getting more comfortable in my stride and each workout feels a little easier than the one before. It’s challenging, don’t get me wrong, but I can feel myself getting stronger and my endurance increasing week after week.

Yesterday was week six, day one putting me well over the halfway point in the program.

While I know I’m not ready to run an actual 5K, I’m really excited to be running the Jingle Elf Run which is a two mile race to kick off the Christmas season. My goal? I want to finish in 20 minutes or less and I think know I can do it!

Are you a runner? Do you want to be? Feel free to share some helpful hints or words of encouragement.
