The Mommyland Farm (Volume 6)

9 May

I am very happy to report that there has been a bit of progress at The Mommyland Farm. Although we were only able to grow the peas from seeds, we now have a garden full of plants that, with any luck, will give us yummy vegetables to enjoy this summer. I take our pea plants to be a HUGE success, they seem to be thriving and we actually got to where we are by putting a seed in the ground. That fact is pretty exciting for Cameron.

So what is The Mommyland Farm growing this year? In addition to our peas, we have cucumbers, tomatoes, and eggplant. There’s still one small section left for something else, and I would really like to have carrots there.

Recently Cameron actually tried a carrot at school and LIKED it (imagine that). I would love to have them growing in our garden to reinforce what he learned at school. I almost emailed his teacher and asked them to please get him to try broccoli next since they seems to have the magic touch when it comes to getting my kid to eat his veggies. For those unaware, Cameron has eaten a vegetable in YEARS.

Anyway, back to the farm…

We (mostly Bill) have  installed steaks with string for the peas and those round wire things for the tomatoes to grow up. We also planted marigolds around the outside perimeter to keep Gunter, our “pet” groundhog from eating our crop. Everything has been fenced in with a fence that is supposed to keep the deer and other critters out, we’ll see if it works…It better, it’s was expensive enough.

Here’s a few pictures of the progress…Yes, I know I need to get my butt out there and weed. Click to enlarge.

Stay tuned for more from The Mommyland Farm.
